Bachelors degrees requiring 3 or more years of full time study from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Masters degrees and PhDs from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 9 or 10 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 55 points, provided the holder of the qualification also obtained their undergraduate (Bachelors) degree from an institution included on the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment. If the Masters degree is not preceded by an undergraduate degree from an institution included on the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment, it is assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Honours degrees from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Graduate and post graduate diplomas require a NZQA assessment for points allocation.

• Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka (from 1982 onwards)
• University of Colombo (from 1979 onwards) (previously University of Ceylon (1942), University of Ceylon, Colombo (1968), Colombo Campus of the University of Sri Lanka (1972))
• Eastern University (inaugurated 1986; previously Batticaloa University, from 1981)
• University of Jaffna (established 1979; previously established as the Jaffna Campus of the University of Sri Lanka, 1974)
• University of Kelaniya (from 1979 formerly the Vidyalankara University of Ceylon, from 1959; Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Sri Lanka, 1972)
• University of Moratuwa (from 1978; formerly the Ceylon College of Technology, from 1966; Katubeda Campus of the University of Sri Lanka 1972)
• Open University of Sri Lanka (from 1980 onwards)
• University of Peradeniya (from 1978; formerly University of Ceylon, from 1942 incorporating Ceylon Medical College (1870) and Ceylon University College (1921); Peradeniya campus of the University of Sri Lanka, 1972)
• University of Ruhuna (from 1984; formerly a Campus of the University of Sri Lanka, 1978; reconstituted as Ruhuna University College 1979)
• University of Sri Jayewardenepura (from 1978; previously the Vidyodaya University of Ceylon, established 1959; Vidyodaya Campus of the University of Sri Lanka 1972)
