BB3.1 Basic rules for business experience (26/07/1999)
  1. Principal applicants may be awarded one point for each complete 2 years of business experience, up to a maximum of 5 points for 10 years or more.
  2. Points are allocated on the basis of full-time business experience for at least 30 hours per week, but credit for part-time business experience may be given on a proportional basis.

Example: business experience gained over 8 years for 15 hours per week would equal 4 years' business experience for a 30-hour week and would therefore be awarded two points.

  3. Credit is given for 30 hour weeks only, even though a principal applicant has worked more than 30 hours in any week.
  4. Any business experience in New Zealand must be lawfully gained while holding a New Zealand work permit, or other lawful authority to work.
  5. Business experience is not mandatory under the Investor category.
