X6.10 Spouses and de facto partners of New Zealand citizens not qualifying for returning residents' visas of indefinite currency

Spouses and de facto partners of New Zealand citizens who do not qualify for an RRV current for an indefinite period (see X4.25), may be issued with a further two year RRV, provided that the New Zealand spouse or partner supports the application in writing, and:

  1. for spouses of New Zealand citizens, a valid marriage certificate is provided as well as evidence that the relationship with the New Zealand spouse is ongoing; or
  2. for de facto partners of New Zealand citizens, evidence is provided that the relationship with the New Zealand partner is ongoing.

X6.10.1 Dependent children

  1. Dependent children of the spouse or partner of a New Zealand citizen, who were included in that spouse or partner's residence application, may be issued with an RRV.
  2. The RRV will be current for a period equivalent to that of the spouse or partner's RRV.
