WG6.15 Applications for visas for CFF crew members (29/04/2002)

1. Once approval in principle has been given, the NZIS may issue appropriate work visas (see WG6.15.1 below) to individual crew members if it is satisfied that the applicant:
   1. meets the standard requirements for a temporary visa, and
   2. has the required qualifications and experience for the position, provided that they are the same as those advertised in New Zealand by the employer, and
   3. has a contract as a crew member of the CFF vessel, and
   4. has a guarantee of maintenance, accommodation, and repatriation from the employer's agent in New Zealand.
2. The NZIS must refuse to issue a visa to an individual applicant if it is not satisfied of all the matters in paragraph (a) above.
3. If the NZIS refuses to issue a visa to an individual applicant, the employer must either recruit another person who does meet the requirements or go through the approval-in-principle process again for a different category of applicants.
4. If the employer wishes to recruit a crew member or crew members with lesser qualifications and less experience than those previously advertised for in New Zealand, then the employer must seek approval in principle again and complete all necessary steps listed in WG6.10 before lodging individual visa applications.

WG6.15.1 Definition of 'appropriate work visa'

An appropriate work visa is a visa that is limited to work on the named CFF vessel and is current for the period of that vessel's charter in New Zealand waters, up to a maximum of 24 months.
