Y2.40 Memorandum of understanding with airline carriers
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exists between INZ and certain airlines. The MOU:
- records an agreed approach to border responsibilities between the parties; and
- clearly assigns responsibilities in developing and implementing best practices to minimise the number of breaches of the Immigration Act 1987; and
- focuses on the level of airline infringements and their associated causes.
- If it is necessary to formally review the passenger check-in and processing procedures at a particular airport the consent of the airline concerned must be obtained.
- Despite the existence of the MOU, INZ reserves the right to prosecute when appropriate.
