D5.20 Executing a removal order or deportation order on a minor
Immigration Act 1987 s 59
- If a person under the age of 17 years of age who is not married or in a civil union is to be removed or deported from New Zealand and a parent or guardian is not accompanying them, immigration officers must make all reasonable efforts to contact their parent or guardian to agree on suitable travelling arrangements for them.
- If agreement on the travel arrangements cannot be reached, immigration officers must make travel arrangements for the person in consultation with:
- the nominated responsible adult for the person; or
- if consultation with the nominated responsible adult is not possible or practicable, with the Director-General of Social Welfare.
