D8.1 Repatriation of people from New Zealand
See also Immigration Act 2009 s 398
- Repatriation involves the State paying some or all travel costs to enable visa holders to return to a country to which they have right of entry. This will usually be their country of citizenship.
- In some cases where the family unit wishes to remain intact, this may include repatriating a New Zealand citizen, residence class visa holder, spouse, partner or dependent child.
- Repatriation will normally only occur in circumstances where the person is the holder of a current visa or has been in New Zealand unlawfully for less than 42 days, and then, only if D8.5 applies.
