RW5 English language requirements under the Residence from Work Category
- To be granted a resident visa, any partner or dependent child aged 16 and older, who are included in any Residence from Work Category application, must either:
- show that they meet a minimum standard of English to ensure their English language ability is sufficient to assist them to successfully settle in New Zealand (see RW5.1); or
- pre-purchase ESOL training.
- In addition, principal applicants under Religious Worker instructions must show that they meet a minimum standard of English to ensure their English language ability is sufficient to assist them to successfully settle in New Zealand (see RW5.1).
- Despite RW5(a), any partner or dependent child included in a South Island Contribution Resident Visa application does not have to meet English language requirements.
