U5.15 Private training establishments (30/07/2012)
- Private training establishments may offer course places to foreign students provided the programme of study or training scheme meets the criteria for one in which a foreign student may be enrolled in accordance with the provisions of the Education Act 1989 (see section 232).
- The definition of a foreign student is contained in section 159 of the Education Act 1989.
- The primary requirements for satisfying section 232 and 233 of the Education Act 1989, in respect of programme of study or training schemes are that:
- the private training establishment providing the programme of study or training scheme has been registered by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and
- the programme of study or training scheme is an approved programme of study or training scheme, and
- the private training establishment has been accredited to provide the programme of study.
Note: These requirements apply to all programmes of study and training schemes with the exception of those programmes of study or training scheme that are exempt as provided for in section 232(2) of the Education Act 1989.
