South Africa - Trade Qualifications (10/12/2012)
The qualifications listed below qualify for the points indicated where the qualification:
- is relevant to an occupation in Part B of the List of Skilled Occupations at Appendix 6, and
- in Table A is awarded within the ‘qualification awarded from’ date range by a Government Department in Table C:
- between 1977 – 1983, there is evidence of a completed Contract of Apprenticeship awarded or endorsed by the Registrar of Apprenticeship (Apprenticeship Act, No. 37, 1944 with amendments), in the same or similar occupation as the qualification from Table A, or
- from 1984, there is evidence of a completed Contract of Apprenticeship awarded or endorsed by the Register of Manpower Training, in terms of the Manpower Training Act, 1981, in the same or similar occupation as the qualification from Table A.
- in Table B is awarded within the ‘qualification awarded from’ date range by:
- a Government Department listed in Table C; or
- a Technikon listed in Table D.

If any courses leading to the award of one of the qualifications listed in Tables A or B above were taken outside of South Africa, including courses which have been cross-credited towards the listed qualifications please refer to the NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.
All qualifications awarded after 2012 should be referred to NZQA for an International Qualification Assessment.
For any purpose other than claiming the SMC points stated, additional evidence of at least a qualifying trade test, in a relevant occupation, is likely to also be required.
