I1.5 Grant of an interim visa (1/12/2021)

  1. An interim visa may be granted to a person who:
    1. holds a temporary visa; and
    2. has applied for a further temporary visa; and
    3. has not been granted a 2021 interim visa; and
    4. is in New Zealand.
  2. An interim visa cannot be applied for.
  3. Interim visas may be granted by electronic means.

Note: Temporary visas include visitor, student, work, military, and diplomatic, consular and official visas. Interim and limited visas are not categorised as temporary visas and do not meet the requirements of I1.5(a).

I1.5.1 Grant of an interim visa a matter of absolute discretion

  1. No person is entitled to an interim visa as a matter of right.
  2. Whether or not to grant an interim visa to any person is a matter for the absolute discretion of the Minister of Immigration or the relevant immigration officer.
  3. There is no right of appeal against a decision not to grant an interim visa.
