WD3.5 Currency and conditions of Post-study work visas (16/11/2020)
- Applicants who meet the requirements of WD3.1(a) to (f) are eligible for a post-study work visa with a duration as set out in the table below:

meets (ii) above if qualification is a non-degree level 8

1 year (or part thereof) in addition to the time spent studying the qualification in New Zealand, as long as the total duration of the post study work visa is no more than a total of three years

- The study duration is determined by the education provider (and confirmed through the offer of place or a confirmation letter) and does not include extra time for repeating failed components.
- An immigration officer may request further evidence if they are not satisfied that the actual study duration aligns with the expected length of study for the qualification.
- A Post-Study work visa granted on the basis of a Bachelor’s degree or a qualification at levels 8 to 10 gained in New Zealand may allow the holder to work for any employer, in any occupation and in any location.
- A Post-Study work visa granted on the basis of a non-degree qualification at level 7 and below may only allow the holder to work in the occupation related to the qualification as specified in the third column of the Qualifications Eligible for a Post-Study Work Visa (Appendix 13) list.
WD3.5.5 Working towards occupational registration or affiliate membership
Applicants who have a non-degree level 7 or below qualification that is specified on the Qualifications Eligible for a Post-Study Work Visa (Appendix 13) list, or a non-degree level 8 qualification, may be granted one additional year on their Post-Study work visa (as specified in the table at WD3.5(a), and up to a maximum total of three years) if:
- they are in the process of gaining registration or affiliate membership with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand or the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors; and
- they require additional work experience to a maximum of one year to obtain the registration.
Note: Completion of New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Quantity Surveying) Level 6 plus a minimum of one year of quantity surveying work experience in New Zealand meets the requirements for Affiliate Membership of the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (Pathway 1).
