G2.20 Minimum points (26/07/1999)
  1. Principal applicants in the General Skills category must obtain a minimum of 10 points for qualifications (see G3.1) and one point for work experience (see G4.1). Principal applicants who fail to obtain the minimum points for qualifications and work experience must not be approved, unless principal applicants are exempted from the requirement for points for work experience under (c) below.
  2. If a principal applicant is only eligible for one point for one year of New Zealand work experience (see G5.10), they do not meet the minimum points requirement for this factor.
  3. Principal applicants who have completed a New Zealand qualification (see G2.20.1 below) that qualifies for points under the General Skills category are exempt from having to obtain a minimum of one point for work experience, provided that they obtained the qualification without the assistance of New Zealand Overseas Development Assistance (NZODA) funding (see G4.1(b)).

G2.20.1 Definition of 'New Zealand qualification'

A New Zealand qualification is a qualification that is:

  1. conferred by a New Zealand institution; and
  2. obtained by the person undertaking at least half the course requirements in New Zealand.
