R6.10 Points systems (18/06/2002)

Applications in the General Skills and Investor categories are assessed under a points system.

R6.10.1 Fail marks

  1. In order to qualify for residence, principal applicants in the General Skills and Investor categories must first exceed an automatic fail mark under a points system and also meet the passmark current at the time the application is made.
  2. The General Skills Category fail mark is always one mark below the passmark applying on the date on which the application is made. Principal applicants who do not have a points allocation equal to or greater than the passmark applying on the date on which their application is made must be declined.
  3. The Investor Category fail mark is 11 points and principal applicants who score 11 points or below must be declined.

R6.10.5 Passmarks

  1. From July 2002 onwards the passmark for General Skills Category applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
  2. The passmark applying to a General Skills Category application is the passmark applying on the date on which the application is made. For General Skills Category applications made during the period 18 June 2002 to 31 July 2002 inclusive the passmark is 28 points.
  3. If no new passmark is promulgated for the month of August 2002 the passmark for that month will be the same as the passmark for period 18 June 2002 to 31 July 2002 inclusive. From then on if no new passmark is determined for a particular month, the passmark for that month will be the same as the passmark for the previous month.
  4. The passmark for the Investor Category within the Skilled/Business stream is 12 points.
  5. Applications with a points allocation equal to, or greater than, the passmark, which have met health and character requirements policy, are eligible to be approved in principle subject to other policy requirements being met.

R6.10.10 Programmed approvals

The passmark for General Skills Category applications is calculated to enable the Skilled/Business stream allocation to be approximately met.

Effective 18/06/2002
