E2.23 Zimbabwe nationals temporarily staying in New Zealand (01/05/2002)

Until the situation in Zimbabwe stabilises, Zimbabwe nationals who were in New Zealand on 30 April 2002, and

  1. are coming to the end of 12 months temporary stay, may apply for and be granted a permit for a further six months, to enable them to remain legally in New Zealand; or
  2. are on a temporary permit and who are offered a job in New Zealand, may apply for and be granted a work permit for six months, without that job being subject to a local labour market test ( see WG3.10).

Where a temporary permit granted under this provision is coming to an end, an application may be made and further permits granted for six months duration.

Notes:
~ the fee waiver applies only to the renewal of visitor permits

~ work permits may be 'open' and not restricted to a specified employer

~ 'Zimbabwe national' does not include a person who has an entitlement to a passport of another country, with rights to live, work, and study in that other country (the Zimbabwe Citizenship Act does not recognise dual nationality)

Effective 01/05/2002
