WI4.30 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Working Holiday Scheme (29/04/2002)
- This scheme allows 200 young residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) annually from 1 April to be issued with multiple entry work visas, current for 12 months from the date of issue, authorising employment for a maximum of 12 months from the date of arrival.
- To be eligible for a work visa under this scheme, applicants must:
- be residents of the HKSAR ordinarily resident in the HKSAR at the time of applying, and
- satisfy the visa officer at the NZIS branch in Hong Kong that their main intention for coming to New Zealand is to holiday, and that employment is an incidental reason for the visit, and
- be aged between 18 and 30 years (both inclusive) at the time of application, and
- not be accompanied by dependent children, and
- possess a valid British National Overseas or HKSAR passport, and
- possess a return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket, and
- possess a minimum of NZ$4,200 available funds for maintenance, and
- pay the prescribed Working Holiday Scheme work visa application fee, and
- agree to hold medical and comprehensive hospitalisation insurance that will remain current throughout their stay, and
- not seek to have a spouse included in a work visa granted under this scheme. (Any spouse would need to apply independently for a Working Holiday Scheme work visa under this scheme.)
- Holders of working holiday visas issued under this scheme:
- must not work for the same employer for more than three months, and
- must not undertake permanent or long term employment unless they apply for and obtain a permit that enables this as provided by WI4.1.5, and
- may enrol in one training or study course of up to 3 months duration during the course of their visit to New Zealand.
