E2.26 Sportspeople representing Fiji (01/01/2001)
  1. Visa or immigration officers must not issue or grant temporary visas or permits to sportspeople representing Fiji or Fijian national and/or Fijian club teams at all levels who are applying to enter New Zealand temporarily for the purpose of such representation.
  2. Notwithstanding (a) above, Fiji sportspeople representing Fiji or Fijian national and/or Fijian club teams participating in regional or international sporting tournaments may be issued visas and granted permits if:
    1. participation in the regional or international sporting tournament involves travel to New Zealand, and
    2. the New Zealand host sporting body does not have control over the selection of participants.
  3. Sportspeople who are coming as individuals and do not represent Fiji or a Fijian national or club team are not subject to (a) and may be considered for temporary entry to New Zealand under appropriate temporary entry policy (see V3.85 and W3.55).
  4. For the purpose of this policy sportspeople includes:
    1. people taking part in sporting competitions at all levels;
    2. people training for sporting competitions at all levels in New Zealand;
    3. sports administrators representing Fiji in a sports administration role; and
    4. coaches and other personnel associated with sportspeople.
