U5.25 Polytechnics (26/07/1999)
  1. Polytechnics may offer places to full fee foreign students in any state- funded course for which they have spare capacity after placing New Zealand and MFAT scholarship students.
  2. Polytechnics may also offer places to foreign students in any course that is not state-funded, provided that the course is registered under section 186A of the Education Act 1964.
  3. Companies or trusts established by polytechnics to provide full fee courses to foreign students are regarded as training establishments for immigration purposes (see U5.15).

    Note: polytechnics now include technical institutes and community colleges.
