C4.10 Lapsing claims for refugee status (26/07/1999)

  1. A refugee status claim is considered to have lapsed for the following reasons:
    1. if the claimant has chosen to leave New Zealand before a decision is made on their claim; or
    2. if the claimant has been granted residence status in New Zealand.
  2. In such cases, the RSB will notify the claimant, or the claimant's representative, in writing, after it receives confirmation of the claimant's departure or residence. If there is no representative and the claimant has departed, the claim lapses.
